Storytime at a social distance! Join us on the library’s Facebook page each Tuesday morning for a new story read by Miss Cindy! Storytime is a first step toward building literacy and social skills for your child.

Mason Jar Gnome Garden
Tuesday, April 6th
Stop by the library to pick up a kit to make your very own mason jar gnome garden! Available while supplies last.

Earth Day Scavenger Hunt
Thursday, April 22nd

Go on a scavenger hunt in honor of Earth Day! Pick up a scavenger hunt list at the library, take pictures of the items on the list and send them to the library’s Facebook page or messenger and be entered to win a fabulous prize! After picking up your list, you will have until April 26th to submit your pictures, and the winner will be announced on April 27th.

Adult Easter Egg Hunt

Adult themed free goodies and scratch offs hidden in eggs at the Library, Illini Park and Village Hall. Will you find the Golden Egg and win a special prize?Bring a bag or basket.

Second Saturday Book Club

Join us in Illini Park for a discussion of A Gentleman in Moscow by Armor Towles! Book club will be moved to Zoom in the event of inclement weather.

Mystery and More Book Club

Bee Hive Decoration
Thursday, April 22nd 6:00 pm
We’ll make a beehive decoration together over Zoom for the upcoming Spring season! This can be used as a welcome sign, door hanger, or just a decoration for around the house. Register and pick up supplies at the library.

DIY Tote Bag
Thursday, April 29th 6:00 pm
Starting with a blank canvas tote, we will be turning it into the perfect Spring/Summer bag together over Zoom. We will be using stencils and paint to create the design. Register and pick up supplies at the library.

Opportunity to Volunteer: The Friends of the Barclay Public Library are looking for new members. Membership is only $5 per year per individual and gives you an opportunity to encourage reading and carry out fun events in the community. Kids DIY Flower Pot
Saturday, May 8th 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Kids will decorate a flower pot and then plant flowers as a gift for Mother’s Day. This will be a socially distanced outdoor program. Please dress for mess. No registration required.

Tie-Dye Teddy Bear
Saturday, May 22nd 11:00 am
Each child attending will stuff their own teddy bear, tie dye it, name it, and take it home. Supplies limited. Register at the library or by calling 217-672-3621. This will be a socially distanced outdoor program.

Butterfly Bombs
Thursday, May 14th 6:00 pm
Also known as Wildflower seed bombs. We will be using just three easy items for this program: Clay, compost, and wildflower seeds. The clay will protect the inside layer containing the seeds. That way you can just place the butterfly bombs outside in any desired area and a patch of wildflowers will appear in a few weeks!

Mother’s Day at Your Library
Monday, May 3rd – Saturday, May 8th
Stop in the library anytime the week before Mother’s Day to pick up a pot, paints and plants to make a Mother’s Day gift for yourself or someone else.

  • Hoopla – this has pretty much everything you could want! Audiobooks, movies, ebooks, and even music and television shows!
